About SRDI

The concept of public safety diving is not new, but it is a changing one. Dive teams all over the country struggle to get started, to gain traction, or to be successful. They get caught up in new training options or the glitz and glam of new equipment, and they lose focus on what really matters to making a dive team great…training and experience. Getting in the water and doing it.

Over the past 10 years training has taken a backseat among public safety dive teams, and ineffectively been replaced with technology that was always meant to assist a diver. Now more than ever, dive teams need to get back to investing into the divers. For some public safety dive teams training is like a box to check, doing it only once or twice a year; but there are teams that want to improve, to be better, to insure their diver’s come home at the end of the day.

We understand the feelings and frustrations of these dive teams that are looking to improve themselves as divers. They don’t know who to choose to train them in this over-marketed world. This is exactly why the SRDI was formed.

At SRDI, we know the challenges public safety divers face underwater.

We’ve created training and resources that can help them in any scenario they encounter so that every dive is safe and successful.

We can’t perform the search, the recovery, or the investigation. That’s your job. But we can help equip you with solid, experienced based training.

Our training may start with a course, but it and the resources continue well beyond that first day in the water. Fundamental in-water skills, technology that connects you and your team like never before, and ongoing coaching and training are what we are making available to every public safety diver.

We believe in the hard, important work that public safety dive teams do, and we want to help these teams go out each day, find success, and then come home to tell their story to the next generation of divers.

Sincerely,

Jordan Harvell

Special Response Diving International

About SRDI

Special Response Diving International, or SRDI, was formed in 1988 by a group of full-time police divers to establish a national standard for public safety diver training and certification. It has provided training to police officers, fire departments, military divers, and environmental investigators throughout North America, Central America, South America, Ukraine, Australia, the Caribbean, and the Philippines.

We have trained departments and agencies that include, FBI, Secret Service, US State Department, Army, Navy, Air force, Marines, Coast Guard, US Special Forces, DEA, Florida Highway Patrol, Texas DPS, Texas Rangers, Miami-Dade Police Department, Tampa Police Department, Longview Texas Fire Department and many more.

SRDI provides a great opportunity for Public Safety Divers from both Fire and Police Departments to receive much-needed training in a dangerous field of work. At SRDI, we know the challenges public safety divers face underwater. So we’ve created training and resources that can help them in any scenario they encounter so that every dive is safe and successful.
